El Porvenir is a small nonprofit organization dedicated to sustainable development in Nicaragua. Simple drinking water projects are their number one priority. There are no paid staff. Villagers must supply all of the manpower to complete their own projects. Each year El Porvenir offers two-week work projects in Nicaragua for North Americans. Small groups of less than ten people live and work in a village, participating with local families in the construction of a water project. They also offer one-week educational tours that involve visits to the projects as well as recreational travel. Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC), headquatered in Sausalito, CA, brings year round outdoor adventure experiences to physically impaired kids of all ages. Every fall they have a hugh gala complete with kayak races on San Francisco Bay, a gourmet dinner buffet, dance, and silent auction. The money raised goes back into the many programs for their kids.
